Shattered Silence:
The Weight of Unseen Scars

Letting the model try on the top design to assess the fit. This helps me evaluate the proportions, comfort, and overall look, allowing me to make necessary adjustments for a better final outcome.
In Her Stride 2024: Threads of Resilience is a tribute to the unbreakable spirit of survivors of violence. In collaboration with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts UAS (NAFA) Fashion Design Students and New2U by SCWO, an initiative of the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO), pre-loved fabrics and materials once donated by the community have been transformed into one-of-a-kind fashion pieces embodying stories of resilience, hope, and renewal.
This physical research book is particularly interesting because it requires me to invest more time and effort in designing and printing out the photos. This hands-on process enhances the visual experience and provides deeper inspiration for my design exploration.
Taking photos of the process and printing them out to paste in the research book will effectively document the development journey. This visual representation will not only showcase the steps taken but also provide a clearer insight into the experimentation and inspiration behind the design.
Encapsulates the concept of domestic abuse, the hidden but heavy burden it places on victims, and the lasting, irreparable scars and memories that remain.
I use sticky notes on top of the research book to add small notes or additional information. This allows me to include extra insights without altering the original layout, making it easier to refine and expand my research.

I have reimagined these materials into fashion statements that go beyond aesthetics, reflecting the personal journeys of survivors who have endured violence. Each design is paired with a survivor’s story, giving voice to their experiences of survival, recovery, and empowerment. These narratives speak of inner strength, the bravery required to escape violence, and the hope for a brighter, more secure future.
